Week two has flown by, and the little pups are doing so well! Some of them have started taking their first wobbly steps, and a couple are just beginning to peek open their eyes. Ginger is still giving them round-the-clock care, but she’s starting to take short breaks outside of the whelping box. In the first week, she hardly left their side except for meals and potty breaks. Now she’s slowly getting more comfortable leaving the puppies for a little while longer.
By week three, we’ll begin introducing them to puppy mush as we slowly transition them away from mom for feedings. Before we know it, all their eyes will be wide open, and tiny puppy teeth will start to appear. When they start teething, Ginger will naturally stop nursing them. Those sharp little puppy teeth can’t be comfortable for her, can they?
The puppies got their first dose of Pyrantel on Sunday. This helps to keep them healthy and free from round worms and other parasites, which is totally normal for pups as they are still building up their immune systems.
For those of you who are interested in their progress, here’s the latest on their weights and size:
Brown (M) – 1277 grams
Green (M) – 1191 grams
Pink (F) – 1160 grams
Purple (M) – 1143 grams
Orange (F) – 1103 grams
Yellow (F) – 1081 grams
Red (M) – 1067 grams
Aqua (F) – 1050 grams
Lime (F) – 1003 Grams
Ginger’s AKC name is “Ginger White Claw,” and no, it has nothing to do with the adult beverage. Ginger’s back right toe is white and three of the puppies have this same trait, just like their mom. Green, Aqua and Purple all have white toes on their back right paw.
