Puppy Playtime & Potty Training In Week 4

Puppies playing with colorful discs in a pen.

Week 4 is finally here and puppy selection has started! A big thank you to everyone who visited us last weekend – it was fantastic meeting all of you and getting to know your families. I can already tell that these adorable pups are going to be pampered four-legged kids in their new homes!

The families who chose male pups have made their selections, and the first female pick went to the Collins family who selected Yellow. The second female pick couldn’t make their selection until later this month. We understand everyone is eager to pick their puppy, so we’ll update you as soon as we can. Keep an eye on the Puppy Pick Page for the latest selections, as we keep this information current.

The pups are growing super fast – all of them are over 5 lbs now! They are full of energy and have a full set of puppy teeth. They’re also sleeping less, and Ginger is no longer feeding them. They are now enjoying four meals a day from their puppy bowl.

We took pictures this week right after they ate, so some of them have a bit of puppy mush on their faces in the photos. In hindsight, we probably should have taken the pictures first. It’s definitely an agility test for us to feed them, take their pictures, and keep them clean since they eat four times a day. Just imagine having nine impatient toddlers at mealtime!

This week, they are being introduced to toys and obstacles in addition to the outdoors.  They didn’t think too much of their first outdoor adventure…it made them nervous since Ginger was so far away outside. In the photo at the top, you can see them enjoying playtime with their toys, and the colored circles on the ground are little steps at different heights. This helps them learn how to climb stairs or navigate rocks if you take them hiking.

Potty training has also improved. We have a designated area for them to potty, and many of them are using this spot. Less mess for us, and it’s great for you because they understand that when we put them there, it’s time to do their business. We’re pleasantly surprised by how well they are doing with this at just a little over 4 weeks old.

The second dose of Pyrantel was given this weekend; that’s a preventative measure for roundworms and parasites that are common in puppies….but no signs or symptoms of either.  Next update and pictures in week five.
