Week 7 is here, and it’s almost time for our furry friends to head off to their new homes! This will be our last pupdate for the fall 2024 litter.
Can you believe how much these little ones have grown and changed in just a few short weeks. Last week, they were so shy about exploring the world outside the house and stayed very close to their mom. But now, they’re all over the yard, and we can hardly catch them to come in!
They’re having the time of their lives, and a few of them even want to dig some holes. Grrr…. In the cover photo above, that’s the Brown puppy that has dug a hole between two rocks in our yard. He sits there like the king of his domain and doesn’t let the other pups play in his hole. While we try to discourage this behavior, when we cover it up he just digs it out again. On the bright side, it tires him out so he sleeps good after excavating his house. It’s been a wild ride with this group, and we’re so glad we got to be a part of their journey with you.
This is our busiest week of the breeding process, as the pups sleep less and become more playful. If they’re not playing, they’re either eating or potty training. With nine pups, we’re constantly on the move during this final week. Potty training has gone exceptionally well with this litter.
We haven’t had any overnight accidents outside the litter box this past week, and there have been only a few during the day. The pups are only allowed access to the litter box at night, and we take them out several times during the day. They’ve learned that outside is potty time and playtime. The best part is that many of them let us know when they need to go out, which is half the battle. If your pup starts whining, dancing, or going in circles, there’s a high probability they need to relieve themselves.
The pups have been having a blast socializing this past week. Halloween brought in a bunch of visitors who couldn’t resist giving them all the attention they deserved. We’ve also been letting them explore the house a bit, and guess what? They stumbled upon the cats…Luci and Lady Bug. Well, let’s just say the cats are in permanent hiding. I’m sure we won’t see them again until everyone’s gone next week.
The pups are going to see our vet on Friday morning and get their first set of shots. They’ll all get a clean bill of health before they head home this weekend. You’ll get a complete record of their care, vaccinations, and everything else they’ve been up to for the past eight weeks. They’ll be due for their next set of shots with your vet in about 30 days. Final weights for everyone this week on Monday 11/4:
Brown – 6.5kg
Red – 5.5kg
Green – 5.5kg
Aqua – 5.45kg
Purple – 5.4kg
Lime – 5.25kg
Orange – 5.2kg
Yellow – 5.0kg
Pink – 5.0kg
Lastly, all the pups are getting their darker, red coloring as their coats come in. This is probably one of the most color-consistent litters we’ve had. Many of them also have Ginger’s marquee trademark of a white toe!
Enjoy the “graduation” photos below. Even as I write this, the little rascals are barking to go out. Gotta go take care of the babies!
